A quality management system's objective is to consistently and permanently ensure or improve the quality of a company's goods or services. Customers' needs should always be considered, and actions should be evaluated for effectiveness. An independent certification body's confirmation that a business has a working quality management system is provided by the DIN EN ISO 9001 certification.
Any type of business, irrespective of industry or company size, may apply for DIN EN ISO 9001 certification. The willingness to document and present one's own activities and quality management system is a requirement. The internationally recognised standard pays special attention to process optimisation and satisfaction of customers and other stakeholders.
Management of risk and knowhow are also crucial. In all processes, systematic risk-based planning and action are necessary. The company's competencies and necessary knowledge must be managed sustainably. In a quality management system that has received DIN EN ISO 9001 certification, the roles and procedures of quality-relevant activities are clearly defined. To guarantee a continuous improvement process, a control loop is necessary.
The certification process
There are many steps in the DIN EN ISO 9001 certification process. During an optional pre-audit, independent auditors examine which of the requirements of the standard have already been met by the company.
There are two steps in the certification procedure itself. The first is intended to ascertain certification capability. For instance, it is confirmed that the documentation for the quality management system is complete and compliant with DIN EN ISO 9001 standards. Additionally the implementation status of the management system is evaluated.
In the second stage, the effectiveness of the quality management system in all departments and throughout the entire process chain is assessed. It takes into account both general and industry-specific principles and specifies corrective measures in the event of deviations.
When the audit is successfully completed, the independent certification body issues the DIN EN ISO 9001 certificate, which attests to the functionality and standard compliance of the quality management system. The management system's effectiveness and development are evaluated on an annual basis during the certificate's three-year validity period. This verifies the ongoing process optimisation and standard compliance.
A re-certification audit confirms the company's engagement and compliance with the requirements once more, before the certificate's validity expires after three years. Following a successful completion, the business receives another certificate with a three-year validity period.
