monta tapes are available with either acrylic, hotmelt or natural rubber adhesive. The latter is manufactured and coated onto the carrier at our factory site in Germany. The three adhesive technologies can be distinguished by the following criteria:

Look
Natural rubber adhesive makes the tape shimmer in amber or honey shades. Adhesive tapes coated with hotmelt look milky-white, whereas acrylic tapes are transparent.

Odour
The ingredients that give natural rubber adhesive its distinctive odour are latex, natural and hydrocarbon resins, as well as a trace amount of solvent. Hotmelt adhesive tapes smell slightly burnt, acrylic has a rather sweet scent similar to dispersion paint.

Visual characteristics
Adhesive tapes coated with biobased natural rubber often feature drying spots. Hotmelt tapes, when applied to each other with the adhesive side, produce adhesive threads when separated. Acrylic tapes show white stripes or “steps” for every pause in the unwinding movement.

Cleaning Solvent Test
When rubbing cleaning solvent on the adhesive side, the three adhesive technologies react differently: Natural rubber adhesive develops structures resembling volcanoes or cones. Hotmelt adhesive runs, whereas acrylic adhesive clumps.
