When talking about self-adhesive tapes, there are various backing materials to choose from of which PVC is often discussed.

PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride. Simply put, it is made from 43% mineral oil and 57% rock salt. This component significantly lowers the use of non-renewable fossil raw materials and the energy consumption per kg of polymer, compared to others. Highly controversial are heavy metals and plasticizers which are often added to PVC, depending on the industry and finished product. Good to know: The PVC films used by monta are completely free of these additives, as per the requirements of Reach and RoHS.

When manufacturing our PVC tapes, we only utilize mono-axially stretched rigid PVC films with a thickness ranging between 0,030 and 0,060 mm. They are coated with natural rubber adhesives, which mainly consist of renewable resources. PVC is odourless, chemically inactive and resistant to diluted acids and alkalis. Dioxins which can occur during the incineration or thermal recovery of PVC, are successfully filtered out at most incineration plants.

Advantages and applications
Every backing material has its distinct advantages. PVC tapes are extremely robust. They can even be used for packing very heavy and premium goods, e.g. in the automobile industry. High restoring forces of overfilled cartons are no problem either. Due to the PVC tapes‘ strength and tear resistance, in most cases a single-layer application is sufficient, reducing material consumption. PVC tapes also are reliable under demanding climatic conditions and for long distance transportation. Their low elongation makes them the perfect choice for high-quality packaging, corrugated cardboards and bag sealing.

PVC tapes also are a good choice for the relocation and the furniture industry as well as for carpenters, as they unroll easily and quietly, and are perfect for hand application. They can be marked with a pen and – with some practice – torn by hand. Some PVC tapes are ideal for surface protection, e.g. in the furniture industry, glass finishing or during transportation, as masking tape, e.g. for painting industry and electroplating, or for labelling textiles, as they can be removed residue free from many substrates.

monta’s PVC adhesive tapes come in smooth or embossed surfaces, transparent or coloured, with various adhesive formulae and thicknesses. When printed, they convey your advertising message or can be used as eye-catching medium. A deep-drawable splicing tape, especially applicable for blister production, complete the product range. Our PVC tapes can efficiently be recycled with the cardboard box and thus disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
